My favorite little person!
If you know me even remotely well then you know that I attend a bridal/baby shower or wedding almost every week. I know this may seem like an exaggeration but I have been to eight weddings this year and I have the joy of welcoming 13 new babies into the world!
This means I spend a lot of time shopping for and buying or making gifts for the many people in my life. As much as it drives me insane to have to go to so many events...each and every one of them are special in their own way and I honestly wouldn't miss any of them.
My very good and wonderful friend Leigh who lives near Chicago is anticipating her first little one very very soon. She had her shower a month ago and unfortuneately I wasn't able to attend and I didn't quite get around to sending her gift yet either. Oops! Her little man will probably be here before I get all of his gifts mailed off, (this isn't totally unusual for me, my cousin Jennifer who had her sweet little Ethan six weeks ago still hasn't received his gifts. It's coming soon!) This only happens when I can't physically attend the showers, but I digress...
I finally got my two favorite children's books mailed to Leigh today! When she had her shower she asked for books for the baby. I always love when people ask for books because I definitely have two favorites. First, my favorite Dr. Seuss book, If I Ran the Circus.
This edition is the one that I had as a child and I loved this book. I remember thinking it was just so silly! I loved to read it to myself over and over. I can even recall a time when I was crying at my Grandma Connie's house, (I was a big crybaby as a kid which all of my cousins will happily tell you,) and she pulled out her mirror, which she always did when we were crying, and made my look at my face. This normally ended up in my laughing at my tear soaked, red face in the mirror. This particular day I remember my grandma going back to her vanity, after the crisis was averted of course, and me going over to her recliner and reading If I Ran the Circus while she finished what she was doing.
This second book, The Littlest Angel by Charles Tazwell, was given to me as a gift by one of my family's friends when I was a child. I remember thinking it was sad when I first read it. I don't know how old I was but I think I must have been about 10 years old. It's just such a sweet little book. It makes you both sad and happy, and the illustrations are just beautiful.
I'm happy to send these books to Leigh in hopes that her little one loves them as much as I always did. Did you have any favorite books when you were a child?
Until next time.
Nicole
