An Education is a movie that came out in 2009 that I just watched yesterday. I don't think I've ever blogged about a movie and I may never blog about one again. Movies aren't my thing. I mean I like them but I will hardly ever choose to see one in the theatre and I almost never get jokes that involve movie (or TV) quotes. I guess I'm just not that interested.
Well yesterday I was having one of those days. I was tired. After a weekend FULL of family and food and visitors I just couldn't bring myself to do much of anything. Mr. Coleman went to orientation and I decided to watch An Education while he was out and I found it to be just lovely.
I think part of what I loved about this movie is that it takes places in 1960's London and the clothes, cars, furnishings and everything else are so vintage and lovely looking.I guess it has so much that is reminiscent of a time that I would have loved to see with my own two eyes and this gives me a little glimpse of what I may have missed.
Without telling too much about the movie, it's a love story. Sweet, high school age Jenny falls for an older man, David, and the movie shows how her life, the simple life of a very smart high school girl with hopes and dreams of going to Oxford, is transformed by the relationship she starts with David who shows her everything she's never seen but always wanted.
Jenny is changed and the changes she goes through reminded me of how we all feel at that age. How when you're young love can change everything. How it can alter your goals, your thoughts, your passions. How willing you are to give up who you think you are to hold on to this first love experience. This movie really wraps up all of those feelings quite nicely.
Without giving too much away, I would say that this movie may just remind you a little bit of what it was like to be young and bold and foolish. I just really liked it I guess and I figured that some of you might enjoy it as well. It's on Netflix Instant Queue.
